Derrick | Headshots

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I was in a musical once in college. I forgot the words to my solo, hummed through the rest of the song, and nearly wet my pants. That’s when I knew I was meant to be beneath the stage with the rest of the pit orchestra. Derrick, however, has been on the stage for several years (presumably without any accidents), and it was time to update his headshots. It’s fun to meet people who need to update their headshots. It’s very Southern California. Look for Derrick on the tube!

Kyle’s Senior Photos Finale

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

It’s tough to find a full-time teaching position in February.  I graduated from UND with a music education degree in December.  I loaded up my Ford Explorer with as much as I cared about and headed Southwest to California where there was a girl waiting for me.

When I got here, I had nothing to do.  There was only one reason for me to get up in the morning before 10:00 a.m.  I had to teach a wild bunch of fifth-grade boys how to play drums.  So I did, or at least I gave it a shot.  They were crazy.  It was like trying to tame an ant hill.

Kyle was one of those crazy fifth-graders seven years ago.  At that time, we were sure that our adventure in California would last two, maybe three years.  But here we are, seven years later taking Kyles senior portraits.  And we wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else in the world.

The Barents – Round 1

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

My wife and I were dating when I helped her move out to Southern California seven years ago. G. Barents was one of the first people I met from the RCS community. Jill and I were preparing her classroom and G. came in, sat down, and talked to us about the school and the church. Needless to say, we knew a lot more about the school and the church after our history lesson.

There’s something kind of awesome (in the true meaning of the word) about seeing these kids.  I just kept thinking about a young G. and J. beginning a family, and decades later here is what that family has grown into.  I was looking at a live family tree.

Even though they were goofing around, I really like this photo.  This is a strong family, illness or no illness.

L. put the guns away!  They’re covering up your sister-in-law.

I’m pretty sure that they were arguing about who Grandma and Grandpa liked best. L. just about brought out the guns again before everything quieted down.

There are more photos on the gallery site. Be sure to check it out. More on our time with this awesome family tomorrow.
