The Woodrows at the Beach

We’ve become very close to the Woodrows since we started having kids. They are one of our go-to families when we’re in a bind and need a place for the girls while Jill and I go on an emergency date-night. You may remember Katie-Jo from her senior portraits a while back. They were also one of the families that circled their wagons around us when Madelyn was diagnosed last spring. They were frequent visitors to the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital throughout the summer, and they were instrumental in creating and distributing the “Pray for Maddie” pink bracelets that we still wear.

In short, the Woodrows are on our awesome list forever. We so enjoyed doing a photoshoot with them at Corona Del Mar. Thank you so much, Woodrows for taking care of us when we needed it, and loving our girls all the time.

Austin – ACA Class of 2012

Early in the morning, before club soccer even took the field, Austin stepped onto the turf and this shoot never looked back. He’s fun, outgoing, and some say he’s even mildly attractive. I always enjoy talking with seniors about the life they see ahead of them. Austin has a lot of interests including special education which impressed me. But then again, he comes from a long line of impressive guys.

Kelsey – ACA Class of 2011

Congratulations, Kelsey! Last night she walked across the stage at the Redlands Bowl, accepted her fake diploma, and started the rest of her life. Kelsey was so fun to shoot. She has an easy smile, laughs often, and makes friends with cows. We had to climb a fence to get to our second location (something I’ve come to specialize in, I guess). We wish you all the best with what’s next for you, Kelsey.

Diedrich Family

Last summer I had the privilege of meeting the Diedrich family. I hoped that I would get to see them again, if not for a photoshoot then just to hang out. So I was very happy when they called this spring to schedule a shoot to celebrate their kids and to mark Justin’s graduation from Loma Linda’s dental school. I’m glad to see this little guy is doing alright despite the fact that I dumped him in the leaves during the first shoot.

Mallory

Mallory is a professional dancer. She contacted us to get some new headshots for some upcoming interviews with ballet companies around the country and we were more than happy to oblige. We got to do some studio shots as well as some urban shots out in the rain. We had a lot of fun, and I hope I get to see Mallory on stage soon!

Just For Kids Denistry

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the staff from Just For Kids Pediatric Dentistry. These guys were a blast to hang out with. It’s obvious that these guys have a lot of fun working together. I walked into their office before the shoot and I was floored by how cool the place was. There were cartoons and smiling people everywhere. All I could think was, “Who wouldn’t want to go to the dentist when it’s this much fun?”

Rod Collins, Senior Pastor at Sanctuary Church

I just started reading a book called Drive. It’s about what motivates us. For a long time, scientists thought that people were motivated by the need for survival and something the author calls self-economics. In other words, if doing something will benefit my economic situation, I’m likely to be motivated to do it. And for a lot of us, these two motivations remain the rule. But then there are people like Rod Collins.

Rod is a dentist in Redlands. He has a successful practice that provides for his family and allows him to do something that he loves and is good at. For most that would be enough. But a few years ago, Rod was driven by what the book calls the third motivation (read the book for an adequate explanation) to start a church. And he did. Today, Rod is not only a dentist with a successful practice in Redlands, he is also the lead pastor for Sanctuary Church in Beaumont. I had a great time photographing Rod in lots of different places, including on the side of Highway 10.

ACA Senior – Rachel

Rachel is graduating! Rachel and her family are world class folk. They are super involved with Redlands Christian School, Arrowhead Christian Academy, and The River Church. They are awesome baby-sitters. Our girls love going over to their place to play. And Jill and I don’t mind sending them every so often so that we can get away for an afternoon.

Rachel’s parents won this senior portrait session by outbidding everyone in the silent auction during ACA’s Cirque du ACA fundraiser. We had a great time in our session shooting in some really cool light. Congratulations, Rachel!
