So I was honored to get the call to schedule a family shoot with the Nielsons. We had a great time walking around the park. I had no idea what a riot these guys are. Photo shoots tend to bring out the crazy in people, I think. Thanks Nielsons!

First up, the Treurs. We’ve done several sessions with these guys from maternity to baby and each one gets better. These guys aren’t usually interested in the usual locations, so we found some unusual ones.

Seriously cute.

We found a perfect spot where there was just a small shaft of sunlight poking through the darkness. I love this series.

When I need someone to lend me gopher traps, Matt is the guy I call. The Hekmans have been friends of ours for years. Jess is incredibly creative and loves photography. She recently started her own photography business. Check her out! Their little family has grown by one since the last time I photographed them. We had a lot of fun with balloons and bubbles and jumping off of rocks.

I wish things would just slow down. Yeah, I’m looking forward to my summer break from grad school. I’m looking forward to a trip back to Minnesota. And I’m really looking forward to having a couple major date nights/weekends with Jill. (We’ve each been planning.) But I’m really not looking forward to our year with my cousin and his family coming to a close. They will be heading back to the Midwest in July. We have had a great time with them here in Redlands. I really loved having a piece of my family – my childhood – here in California with me. I think the golden state will be a little lonelier when they leave. I think all of my friends (and especially Paul and Danae) are going to have to invite me over for some pity pizza this summer. If you don’t invite me, I’ll likely show up on my own, so don’t be surprised.

Remember this little thing? Well she’s getting bigger, fast. I really enjoyed using the black backdrop for this shoot to create more of a studio feel for these images.

Jill and Denise teach together at Redlands Christian School, and Jim rocks out on the guitar most Sundays at church. These guys won a family shoot almost a year ago at the school’s Holland Festival, and it’s taken us this long to put a shoot together where both of their girls were in town at the same time. It was definitely worth the wait. We had a lot of fun walking around downtown Redlands taking photos.

Their mom and grandmother had a hard time keeping the exuberance of these three in check, but honestly, they were really easy. Kids who like to have fun are easy to photograph. They smile big and laugh often. You just have to be quick on the draw to snap the shutter.
